On Veterans Day, Brian spent most of the day painting the second coat of paint on our walls and to help the process we had the radio on. We kept hearing these heartfelt commercials asking for money for a place called the Fisher House. The stories were of families who needed to be with an injured military member while they recovered or made progress towards recovery. Every time one of the commercials came on it pulled at my heart strings.
Today Brian had a Commanders Call at school where a representative from the Fisher House came to speak about the cause. Essentially the Fisher House is like a Ronald McDonald house for military families. They are all funded by donations, and families can stay there at absolutely no cost to them.
In 2009 the Fisher houses across the country and the world (there is one in Germany) have served more than 11,000 families, saving families more than $15 million in lodging, food and travel expense. Since the first house was opened they have served more than 120,000 families, saving families more than $100 million in lodging, food and travel expenses.
If you're a person that gives money to worthy charities, I ask that you consider this one. We don't give back to our men and women who are serving our country, and this would be a wonderful way to support those that need the most support, and their families in their deepest time of need.
