Emma turned 1 yesterday!
We had a wonderful day, minus a fever and some teething. She got up yesterday morning and got to play with a new toy that Granny and Gramps had gotten for her (through us of course - because its big). After a morning of playing she took a just over two hour nap (its like she knew she needed to be rested!), and woke up with a 100.7 degree fever. Happy Birthday to her! She's been working on her molars for over a week.
While she was sleeping, Brian and I finished the preparations for the party - blowing up balloons, picking up (because we're not successful with her awake!), and even having a minute or two to relax. Emma woke up just early enough from her nap that we were able to have about a half hour playing with her and enjoying her before everyone showed up. She loves balloons!
We had 13 or so people over for hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade potato salad, a beautiful fruit salad, and cake and presents. She handled the afternoon events very well, and even opened some of the gifts without any help from us.
After everyone left Emma and I both took a nap, so we could stay up for the fireworks in town. We went with our friends LeighAnn and Mitch down town to watch fireworks at the house of someone Mitch and Brian work with. It was a great view and Emma loved them, surprising many of the people there! She was mesmerized by them in fact! Then it was home to bed.
I would call it a very successful 1st Birthday for our firecracker! I'll try to get pictures up later today, but we're all trying to catch up on sleep and taking care of things that need to be done before Brian leaves on Monday till Tuesday evening late.
